The Question Behind the Question

Creators ask us whether a newer device profile is "safer" than an older one. The honest answer: coherence beats recency. Platforms do not reward the newest phone. They look for a capture profile where every field agrees with every other field.

What Actually Differs Between the Two Devices

• Lens set: the 16 Pro reports a 5x tele module; the 13 Pro reports 3x. A file claiming a 13 Pro with a 120mm-equivalent focal length is internally inconsistent.
• Sensor size and aperture: different maximum apertures per lens, different pixel pitch, different native resolutions.
• Software version: the OS string embedded at capture must be a version that actually shipped for that model.
• Colour profile: newer models default to different tone-mapping and gamut tags.

What Platforms Actually Read

The checks that matter are consistency checks, not vanity checks:

• Does the reported focal length exist on the reported lens?
• Does the exposure triangle (ISO, shutter, aperture) describe a physically plausible scene?
• Does the image resolution match a real capture mode for that device?
• Is there a capture timestamp, and does it sit before the upload time?
• Is there a generator manifest contradicting all of the above?
